Travelling With Kids? Five Items You Need to Stay Organised, Tidy and Clean

Keeping your stuff organised when you have little kids is always challenging but especially so on the road. Staying in a self-contained apartment makes life easier than staying in a hotel room because you have a kitchen and separate bedrooms, but you certainly don't want to be tripping over toys and clothes even in that environment.

To help you keep your self-contained holiday apartment organised, here are the essential items you need:

1. Foldable clothes basket

If you have little kids, clothes will be quickly strewn around the self-contained apartment, as they are taken off before bed or when your child changes into a swimming suit. So that you can easily corral dirty clothing, bring a foldable mesh laundry basket -- when folded, it should fit easily into one of your large suitcase.

Alternatively, hang a mesh bag on the back of the bathroom door for this purpose.

2. Small nesting boxes

The bathroom in your self-contained apartment can also become quickly cluttered with toiletries, toothpastes and brushes. To keep these items organised, bring small boxes. So that they fit in your suitcase, they should be collapsible or nesting boxes.

Place them on the countertop in the bathroom and sort each person's stuff into an individual one. Alternatively, use small makeup bags for each person.

3. Bins for toys

Want to keep the toys and souvenirs together in your room? Then, you need toy bins. Bring foldable, mesh bins that can fit into your suitcase. As you stay in the self-contained apartment, your kids will see these bins and put away their toys as usual.

4. Liquid hand soap

Many hotels and self-contained apartments come with free soap samples. You may receive shampoo, conditioner and body lotion in bottles, but hand soap in these environments typically comes in the form of a bar.

Bar hand soap gets you clean, but it leaves a residue around the bathroom, and that can be annoying. If possible, bring liquid hand soap.

5. Folders

Regardless of the purpose of your holiday, you are likely to pick up brochures, postcards, souvenir maps, or other bits of paper. You may even want to save tickets to plays, amusement parks or other events.

So that these items aren't wrinkled, sodden and unuseable for the scrapbook by the time you get home, bring folders to organise these items. Choose a spare countertop in your self contained apartment where your folder will be safe and put your paper souvenirs there.

Staying organised with kids on holiday can be challenging, but with the right storage and organisation solutions, it doesn't have to be. Try the above ideas and consider adding to them until you find the right travel organisation methods for your family.
